Creating Special Memories this Holiday Season
January 9, 2023
The holidays are an important time for friends and families to celebrate together. It all starts with the spookiness of Halloween and goes until we shout,
"Three! Two! One!" when the ball drops on New Year’s Eve. We know that residents in nursing facilities can feel isolated during the holiday season, but here at Cumberland Pointe, we always want to ensure our residents are not alone and continue having wonderful holidays!
Starting in October, we packed the month full of excitement and new experiences for our residents. From our Trunk-or-Treat event to painting pumpkins and all the costumes, our residents just loved the spooky month! They told us they really enjoyed our “Guess What’s in the Pumpkin” game, which was brand new this year. They also appreciated all of the cute fall décor around the building.

The most memorable part of November at our facility was the beautiful ceremony for our Veterans. The joy and happiness on their faces during this honorable celebration were wonderful to see. Our staff members also enjoyed being a part of the Saint Clairsville Christmas Parade this November. They battled the cold weather to hand out hot chocolate to those watching, but they said it was worth it!

December was the best month of them all. We invited multiple musicians to bring cheerful Christmas music through our building, had a special Grinch Day, a snowball (marshmallow) fight indoors, and finished the month with our striking Ugly Sweater Day. Christmas was filled with gifts and even the jolly man himself stopped by to drop them off and greet our residents.

Even after all of this holiday hoopla, what made our residents the most cheerful this season was our Holiday Dinner. Our residents' families were invited to enjoy a delicious meal to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas together. Following dinner, we asked family members to join their loved ones for a photo by the Christmas tree. This was a perfect sentimental dinner to finish out Christmas. We ended the year with a New Year’s Party filled with hula hoops, festive hats, music and treats!
Even though the holiday season is always busy, it's nice to slow things down and remind ourselves to enjoy the little things, like each other's company. Even through the craziness of the holidays, we enjoyed spending quality time with our staff members, residents and their families, creating new memories with them.
Seeing our residents enjoy the moments we put together for them this holiday season warmed our hearts. We hope everyone had a beautiful and blessed holiday and wish you an even better new year!
