Dog Therapy Bringing Smiles
July 15, 2022
Cumberland Pointe was thrilled to welcome Secret, the therapy dog, into our building! Our residents were so happy and couldn’t wait to pet her as she walked by their rooms.
After a long career as a show dog, Secret was adoboted by Martha Borovich, and she is now a certified therapy dog. She creates lots of smiles and happy hearts as she spends time at local nursing homes. She also spends her time volunteering for Amedisys Hospice.
Therapy dogs have many roles, helping people of all ages and backgrounds. You might see them as they go with their owners to volunteer at schools, hospitals and nursing homes. They work with children learning to read and also visit seniors in assisted living centers. Therapy dogs work with their owners as a team to help improve the lives of others. It's truly amazing to see their effect on others.
Therapy dogs are similar to service dogs but are not meant for the same reasons. Service dogs are trained to perform specific tasks for their own person who may be disabled. Service dogs have special access and privileges in public places where therapy dogs do not always have that special access.
From all of us at Cumberland Pointe, we want to thank Marsha, Tara and Secret for coming and bringing the biggest smiles. We cannot wait to see you all again!
